Lyon’s winter window has taken an unexpected turn this evening with the news that Atletico Madrid have matched the €25m including bonuses + a 20% sell-on percentage fee clause to sign 22-year-old defensive midfielder Bruno Guimarães from Athletico Paranaense, according to L’Équipe and Goal Brazil.
Yesterday, OL concluded an agreement with the Brazilian side, but had yet to finalise personal terms with the player. Atleti’s decision to match Lyon’s proposal means that it is now down to the Brazilian national team captain for the upcoming Olympic Games to choose between the two clubs.
Atleti had a first refusal option arrangement with the Brazilian side, which required Paranaense to inform the Spaniards when they accept an offer for any player.
Nervous few hours ahead for OL.
