Dayot Upamecano: “I am talking to clubs, but I am in no hurry.”

Speaking to reporters in Clairefontaine on Tuesday, RB Leipzig central defender Dayot Upamecano revealed that he is actively talking to clubs about a possible transfer.

On leaving Valenciennes for RB Salzburg in 2015:

I had to leave. Valenciennes had financial problems. I thought it through with my family. We had a good project abroad. I could have made a mistake with the path that I chose, but thank God it took me on the right road and today I am very proud of my journey to this point.

On the secret to his success:

Keeping my feet on the ground, not putting myself under pressure, and my determination. I have had that since I was little and I want to continue to work hard to arrive at the highest possible level.

On his transfer situation:

I extended. I am very sought after, I am speaking with clubs, but I am not in a hurry. We will see what happens in the future.

On the competition for places in the French national team at centre-back:

It is not easy to have this competition, but it is even better for my progression to work with great players like Varane, Kimpembe and Lenglet who have experience and a lot of matches under their belts. The French national team is a dream for me. I have done all the youth categories, I dreamt of coming to the castle (Clairefontaine). Now, I am here. My work has been rewarded, I am proud of myself.
