Ex-France boss Michel Hidalgo passes away at 87

We are saddened to report the passing of former French national team manager Michel Hidalgo at the age of 87.

Hidalgo enjoyed a 14-year playing career where, at right-back and then defensive midfielder, he scored 74 goals across his time at AS Monaco, Reims and Le Havre.

Earning just the solitary cap for France as a player, it was as a manager where Hidalgo would make the biggest impact, serving as Les Bleus boss for eight years and leading his country to European glory at EURO 1984. This was France’s first ever major title as a nation on the international footballing stage.
