John Utaka relives decision to move to Montpellier from Portsmouth in 2011

Speaking on France Bleu’s show dedicated to Ligue 1 side Montpellier, 38-year-old Nigerian attacker John Utaka looked back on his decision to move to MHSC in 2011 from Portsmouth.

“I had 5 months left on my contract with Portsmouth. I wanted to leave but I wanted to go to Europe. I had a lot of offers from South America and Turkey. I could have gone to Besiktas. But when Laurent Nicollin called me to offer for me to come, I said yes without thinking about it and the following morning I was in Montpellier. I knew that here, there were superb players, that the team played positive football. I knew that it was super club and I did not even ask how much (I was being paid), I came to play in a good club.”
