As reported by L’Équipe on Sunday, Ligue 1 side Lyon expect to find out formally on transfer deadline day that they have lost out to Manchester United in their efforts to sign 18-year-old Uruguayan winger Facundo Pellistri from Peñarol.
OL had a €5m plus €2m in bonuses agreement with the South American side, in a deal that would have seen them retain 40% of the player’s future economic rights. The player chose Lyon, despite interest from Manchester City and Manchester United, but it is due to the actions of his club that he will not be joining OL and did not get on the flights that were scheduled to see him arrive in France on Saturday as planned.
Pellistri has agreed a 5-year contract with the Red Devils after they outbid the French side, offering close to €10m upfront. Pellistri is believed to have already undergone a medical with the Premier League side and should be announced as their new player in the coming hours.
