Lyon President Aulas accuses St Étienne fans of inciting violence

Speaking to reporters in the mixed zone this evening following his side’s 2-0 victory over St Étienne, Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas accused St Étienne fans for the violence that occurred on Saturday night between the two clubs’ ultras in Lyon city centre, resulting in several serious injuries.

“I viewed it as an infamy. When we see these scary images, with seriously injured people, you think that football should be a celebration. The ASSE fans had no business being in Lyon because there was a law enforcement order banning them from being there at that time. It is a provocation. Now, it is also necessary that the ultras question themselves. What they did does not honour football. And as a club representative, we are fearful of such attacks.”
