Lyon Sporting Director Juninho discussed the future of 26-year-old Dutch international attacker Memphis Depay in a press conference unveiling Zimbabwean attacker Tino Kadewere.
“When you lose a big star to injury with 18 months remaining on his contract, that is a challenge. Memphis is very important to us, we want him to stay and we have begun talking about a contract extension. He really enjoyed himself taking on the captain’s armband. He is a real leader. He has returned to training with the whole squad, I hope that we will be able to find a solution with a contract extension. You know that after six months without action, the players take time to get back into shape, but in a match he can help us with his talent and hunger. I think that he will be ready to play against Juventus (in August), even though it will be Rudi who decides. Maybe he can help us win matches like that and if he feels that there is a real project for him, maybe he will decide to stay.”
