Manchester United & Chelsea are in continued contact for Moussa Dembélé – L’Équipe

Although Lyon reaffirmed today their desire to hold on to their first choice striker Moussa Dembélé, Manchester United and Chelsea are in continued contact for the 23-year-old, with the latter weighing up making another bid at the beginning of the final week of this month’s window, according to L’Équipe.

In recent weeks, much like they have over the last few months, representatives of Chelsea and Manchester United have hinted that they would undertake a big offensive to sign the ex-Celtic man this month.

On Wednesday, Lyon President Aulas made reference to “offers” when asked about Dembélé. Discussions began at the end of December. At that point, Lyon did not completely close the door to Chelsea for a possible departure for their striker. Internally, the idea of a deal involving €60m and the incorporation of Olivier Giroud, was discussed. However it was quickly ruled out by Lyon board members as being too complicated and owing to the opposition shown by Giroud towards such an agreement, who wants to move to Inter Milan.

Chelsea have not entirely given up hope of signing the Frenchman this month and could wait until the beginning of the final week of the window before making a big offer. Chelsea representatives are in constant contact with Lyon. So too are Manchester United’s board, who could be brought to make a proposal. Internally, OL are saying that owing to them currently sitting 12th in the table, they have 0 intention of selling any key player.

Absolutely one to watch in the coming days.
