Manchester United & Chelsea register interest in signing Edinson Cavani for free in summer

L’Équipe report this morning that a pair of Premier League sides have been alerted to the fact that Edinson Cavani will now almost certainly not be renewing his contract with PSG, which expires in this coming June.

As reported yesterday, the player has pre-contract agreement in place with Atletico Madrid to join them next summer on a 2-year deal, but has yet to sign it.

This gives other interested parties a chance, even though it seems clear that Cavani’s mind is made up: he wants to join up with Diego Simeone’s side.

Manchester United have made initial contact in the meantime and could make an offer if it appears that they will qualify for the Champions’ League next season. As for Chelsea, they themselves have made an opening formal enquiry, as they look to beef up their attacking options.

An interesting few days ahead for Cavani, who will meet with PSG SD Leonardo about the possibility of even leaving the club this month and if that is something that PSG are open to, then how much it would cost suitors.
