Speaking to Midi Libre, Ligue 1 side Montpellier’s president, Laurent Nicollin, confirmed that next week he will begin negotiations to sign current loanee and goalkeeping talent Gerónimo Rulli from Real Sociedad on a permanent basis.
“Next week, we will meet with his agent to make him a contract offer. Because we cannot offer him the same salary that he is on at Real Sociedad. If he accepts, and if he wants to stay, we will then go meet with the Spanish club to find an agreement and negotiate down the option to buy we have. At the moment, we cannot activate the €11m option. When we look for a good goalkeeper, we are in the sort of €6m to €12m range.”
The outlet claims that MHSC are also looking at 33-year-old St Étienne goalkeeper Stéphane Ruffier as a Plan B. Ruffier is out of favour with Les Verts, with Claude Puel having recently relegated him from 1st team action.
