Official | Leicester sign Wesley Fofana from St Étienne for €40m including bonuses

On Friday, St Étienne and Leicester City confirmed the transfer of 19-year-old French central defender Wesley Fofana, in a €35m + €5m bonuses deal, which also includes a 20% sell-on percentage fee clause.

Fofana has signed a 5-year contract with the Foxes, who he publicly announced he wanted to join last month.

Fofana becomes the most expensive central defender out of Ligue 1 in French football history.

Speaking at a press conference earlier today, Claude Puel had the following to say on the deal:

“Should we have kept Wesley and put the club in danger? We’re making huge efforts to find (financial) solutions without the possibility of bringing in new players. Between saving the club and its employees, and keeping Wesley, there was no debate.”
