A lot of noise was made in the French capital last summer over Neymar’s proposed exit from Paris Saint-Germain. The move never materialised and PSG were able to hang onto the forward for this season. French football fans are debating whether or not PSG can win this season’s Champions League. Neymar will be a big part of their cup run and fans can play free casino slots and get bet bonuses before PSG kick off the round of 16 against Borussia Dortmund.
Now, PSG are in a predicament once more over a player possibly leaving the club. However, it isn’t Neymar that PSG are worried about, it is the true superstar of the team, Kylian Mbappé. The forward has been linked with a move away from the French capital and rumours persist that he could go after the season concludes.
Mbappé’s uncertain future
Mbappé has already stated he will not sign a new contract at PSG until after the season ends. The forward wants to see how the Champions League turns out before committing his future to the club. PSG should wrap up the Ligue 1 title without any issues. It is the Champions League that is their aim and the trophy that seems furthest away despite the high-priced players they sign.
The World Cup winner’s contract expires in 2022 and PSG are desperate to tie him down for the foreseeable future. PSG could deal with Neymar leaving in the summer of 2020, however, losing Mbappé would be disastrous for the French team.
PSG’s finances
PSG have deep pockets but Mbappé will cost the club a lot of money to keep. Not only will the club pay Mbappé a large wage to stay at the Parc des Prince, but they must pay an additional transfer fee to Monaco to keep him.
French newspaper Le Parisien claims Monaco are due €35 million more from PSG for Mbappé. If Mbappé moves to another club, PSG must pay Monaco that sizeable fee on top of the original €185m they already shelled out. Monaco’s negotiation in Mbappé’s transfer were masterful as they also added the same financial clause in the contract if Mbappé stays in the capital and signs a new contract. So, no matter where the forward goes, PSG must pay an add-on fee raising the overall transfer fee to €220m.
Where will Mbappé be next season?
There is no evidence that Mbappé will play for another club next season. He will still have two seasons left on his current contract and PSG have no need to sell the superstar forward. That doesn’t mean clubs are not linked with his signature.
Real Madrid have long been linked with Mbappé and it was believed the sale of Ronaldo was to free up cash to sign him. Los Blancos need a squad overhaul and Mbappé could be the next great player to wear Real Madrid’s white shirt.
Liverpool are also linked with Mbappé. It is a strange link as the transfer price for Mbappé is more than Liverpool would normally spend on a player. In addition, the player’s salary would alter the wage bill. Liverpool’s new Nike kit deal has sparked belief a deal could occur, however.
