L’Équipe report tonight that after PSG, it is now Real Madrid who have entered the race to sign 22-year-old French attacking midfielder Houssem Aouar from Lyon.
The newspaper reports that Zinedine Zidane very recently held talks with Aouar, who would be very motivated by the idea of turning out for Los Blancos. Talks between Zidane and Aouar’s entourage have occurred over a possible move for next summer. The Spanish side cannot currently afford a deal owing to COVID-19 restrictions.
Also, they have a lot of midfielders in their existing squad: Luka Modric, Federico Valverde, Isco and Toni Kroos.
Zidane views a deal for Aouar as a real opportunity and not one to let slip, despite these realties, according to the newspaper.
Initially, Aulas was seeking €60m for Aouar this summer, but the existing market has made him reconsider this reality, and he has a good relationship with the Real Madrid board, which could lead to him being willing to make certain allowances.
The idea of doing a loan with obligation to buy is a possibility for Lyon, so long as the eventual fee aligns with their desires.
At the moment, the other offers are not very concrete. Arsenal, who have been after him for several weeks, appear to be a default option and have not offered the money required to close the deal. As it relates to PSG’s approach, initiated by Nasser Al-Khelaifi, they are not Aouar’s priority. Whilst Juventus’ interest is real, it seems very unfocused.
Real Madrid’s interest could solve the problem – Zidane has followed the player for quite some time, but his coaching staff were particularly convinced following his performances throughout the 2019/20 Champions’ League, notably against Juventus, Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
On the player’s side, the idea of joining Real Madrid and linking up with Zinedine Zidane would be a dream. Today, it seems that Aouar cannot imagine himself anywhere else but Real Madrid.
