Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Rennes manager Julien Stéphan admitted that his side’s form was incredibly worrying.
“We are in an extremely negative spiral. We are obliged to reconsider all our aims. We have to remain lucid and say to ourselves that we must behave like a team that is going to have to fight against relegation. At the moment, we are not looking like a team that can fight for the European competition.”
“We have to be lucid. It is not just about the standings, it is about the dynamics and production, what is happening on the pitch. We are not mentally prepared to go through what we are going to go through.”
On the 2-0 defeat to RC Lens:
A big alert, for everyone. We expected a reaction, the first 25 minutes were coherent and then after… we have been liquified by a lack of confidence, certainly also physically.
On his future:
If I am the problem, there is no difficulty, we are sufficiently sincere enough between us inside the club to take the decisions that we need to take… We will speak about all that at the right time.
