Speaking to RMC Sport, Spanish goalkeeper and PSG loanee Sergio Rico discussed his performance and surprise appearance in the Champions’ League semi-final, which his side won 3-0, against RB Leipzig.
“I am very pleased and very happy to have had the opportunity to play today. I did not get many minutes this year but I am truly happy to have had this opportunity, a recompense for the work in training everyday. I always give everything to help the team and Keylor (Navas), my teammate, who could not be here (on the pitch) but who has congratulated me. I am very proud and happy with all the work that I have done this season. This was a great year where I worked to be able to enjoy a moment like today.”
“You know, in moments like this, there are no words to describe the emotions that you feel. Not just the players but the entire club, everyone is happy and deserves it owing to the work that has been done over the entire year. We are very happy, it is indescribable.”
On preparing for the match:
We worked a lot in training and we tried to be in tune with all the details by watching Leipzig’s sequences. On top of that, we applied a higher level of concentration and mentality than normal and when we are like that, we are difficult to stop. The superiority was complete and total on PSG’s part, in terms of possession and chances. Today, PSG were better than Leipzig. With the intensity that we put in, combined with the individual quality of our players, it is very difficult to pose us problems.
I don’t know if I am going to play on Sunday, we will have to wait to see the fitness level of Keylor. Whatever happens, I will give the maximum for the team.
