With Barcelona’s financial situation remaining precarious, Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo didn’t rule out a possible return to Atlético for former forward Antoine Griezmann (30), who left the Spanish capital for Barcelona in July 2019 for €120m.
As reported by L’Équipe, when speaking at the Spanish language film awards, Premios Platino del Cine Iberoamericano, Cerezo said: “The return of Griezmann? Everything is possible in football.”
Griezmann’s status at Camp Nou has been under question in recent weeks with RMC reporting last week the clubs had begin negotiating without initially informing the player with the French outlet questioning Barcelona’s ability, in financial terms, to keep the France forward and extend Lionel Messi’s contract while reporting that Atlético midfielder Saul Niguez could become part of the deal.
Barcelona were informed that they would need to make up any gap in Griezmann’s huge wages should the move go ahead, of around €36m per year as per L’Équipe, making the switch a less attractive one for the club.
