L’Équipe have splashed Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann across this morning’s front cover as part of an update on the Frenchman’s future.
As has been reported in recent days, Barcelona are continuing to offer the 30-year-old out across Europe. After attempts to trade the player with Atlético Madrid for Saúl Ñíguez (26) and with Juventus for Paulo Dybala (27), L’Équipe report that both Tottenham and Manchester City have also now been contracted. Barcelona’s financial situation remains dire with €1.2bn worth of debt to cover and have identified Griezmann as their most saleable asset having added fellow forwards Memphis Depay and Sergio Agüero this summer.
Griezmann, however, is only considering a return to Atlético, a club he left in 2019 for Barcelona, while a member of his entourage told L’Équipe that: “Antoine is not ready to accept any conditions to leave, simply because Barcelona find themselves in a complicated situation [financially].” Meanwhile the Frenchman’s huge salary remains a sticking point for any potential suitor as well as being a major reason for Barcelona’s keenness to sell. Plus, as the sports daily point out, his reception in Madrid may be mixed following the manner of his relatively recent departure.
