Claude Puel retained as St Étienne boss following board meeting

RMC Sport report that Ligue 1 side St Étienne held a board meeting this morning that ran from 08:00 until the end of the morning, during which the future of manager Claude Puel was debated.

ASSE sit bottom of the Ligue 1 table with just 4 points amassed so far, one of which was earned on Sunday night during a 1-1 draw with rivals Lyon.

The board has decided to retain Puel’s services following this morning’s meeting.

Speaking at a press conference last night, French defender Timothée Kolodziejczak backed Puel:

Whatever happens, we are behind the staff, the coach. We wanted to get a result for us, for our supporters. It’s a game they care about. We don’t think about it (the future of the coach), it’s not our problem. Our problem is gaining points and gaining confidence. We picked up one on this match. It wasn’t all perfect but things flowed, we had chances. We also conceded but we tried to play forward. We will have to repeat those kinds of performances to get points because we are missing some.”
