France squad for the Olympics announced – 3 clubs rebel

On Friday, the FFF announced Sylvain Ripoll’s 18-man squad to represent France at this summer’s Tokyo Olympics.

Goalkeepers: Paul Bernardoni (Angers), Gautier Larsonneur (Brest)

Defenders: Benoît Badiashile (Monaco), Anthony Caci (Strasbourg), Malang Sarr (Chelsea), William Saliba (Arsenal), Pierre Kalulu (AC Milan), Clément Michelin (Lens)

Midfielders: Maxence Caqueret (Lyon), Eduardo Camavinga (Rennes), Florian Thauvin (Tigres), Lucas Tousart (Hertha Berlin), Jonathan Ikoné (Lille), Téji Savanier (Montpellier)

Attackers: André-Pierre Gignac (Tigres), Amine Gouiri (Nice), Randal Kolo Muani (Nantes), Arnaud Nordin (St Étienne)

However, since the announcement, OGC Nice, Rennes and Monaco have all affirmed that they will not be allowing their players to head to Tokyo, ruling out at least 3 of Ripoll’s squad at the time of writing: Badiashile, Gouiri and Camavinga.

Ripoll will need to find replacements before the end of the month or else he will be unable to meet the IOC squad criteria and Les Bleus will have to pull out of the competition.
