Kylian Mbappé recounts first meeting with Zinedine Zidane as 14-year-old in new comic book

As reported by Le Parisien, Kylian Mbappé has explained how he first met former Real Madrid coach and player Zinedine Zidane as a nervy 14-year-old in his new autobiographical comic book.

“I was 14 when he invited me to spend time in Madrid,” Mbappé remembers in Le Parisien. “For a child of that age, it was a dream, something fantastic. Zidane was, and still is, the idol of the youth of a whole country. When he welcomes you like that, at 14, when you are nobody, you’re living the best times of your life. It was unique.”

Mbappé also humorously recalls getting into Zidane’s car and asking if he should take off his shoes.

“I was nervous. Going from Bondy [his home Paris suburb] to Zidane, who’s inviting me into his car, I wasn’t sure how to express myself.” Showing his nerves, the first thing the now 22-year-old asked “was if I should take my shoes off in the car… But I can’t say too much, otherwise people won’t read the book!”
