Ligue 1 in talks with broadcaster over showing goals on social media

RMC Sport report that the LFP – the Ligue 1 authorities – are in talks with broadcaster Free over the possibility of showing goal clips on social media.

With Wahbi Khazri’s long-range effort for Saint-Étienne over the weekend being unavailable in France before Sunday midnight, criticism has been levelled at the LFP for its protective measures with regard to clips that could help promote the league abroad.

As it stands, broadcasters are unable to show clips of Ligue 1 on their social media accounts, and users who post clips are potentially subject to suspensions. Nevertheless, RMC Sport have indicated that discussions have been underway since the start of the season to resolve the issue.

Free, unlike Amazon Prime and Canal +, are only able to show Ligue 1 extracts in a delayed format, and are looking to extend those rights to their social media channels. The Ligue 1 authorities are not against the idea, but approval from the other two broadcasters would be needed before a decision can be taken.
