L’Équipe report today that Lionel Messi’s entourage have doubts on Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino’s tactical aptitudes, notably regarding the Argentine’s game plan.
Les are Parisiens currently struggling to find a coherent game plan – an issue which predates the two consecutive draws against Nice and Lens. The former Tottenham Hotspur manager is still looking to find the ideal lineup, and is yet to play the same starting eleven more than once.
Notably, Marco Verratti’s positioning in midfielder remains unclear, with the Italian having missed out on a big chunk of the season through injury.
The positioning of the club’s star front three has also posed questions. With Neymar’s long-term absence and the possibility of putting Kylian Mbappé out on the left, doubts remain over where Lionel Messi can be deployed in the attacking line. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s entourage are harbouring doubts on Pochettino’s tactical abilities, notably considering his game plan to be too restrictive with regards to transitions.
A move towards a 3-4-3 formation remains an option, with PSG switching to the system mid-match at times (as they did against Lens for 25 minutes) but never starting with it.
