Speaking in an interview with Le Parisien, Lyon President Aulas was asked if OL will be competitive in 2021/22.
“COVID-19 is there for everyone. Also for the clubs who are supposed to buy our best players. If we cannot do ambitious things in terms of purchasing players, it means that other clubs won’t be able to. The Lyon model will allow us to be ready as soon as action resumes (next season). We brought Juninho back two years ago to build an ambitious strategy on the sporting side. We are going to continue to invest. We will be ambitious whatever happens. We will have at least as much means as the others to continue to have a very strong team and to follow our intended course: be at the highest level in France and Europe. After the crisis, a new model will be formed in front of us. Nothing will be the same as before. But as soon as we are back, OL will be amongst the first to reinvest. Warren Buffett said: “It’s only when the tide goes out that you learn who has been swimming naked.” I think there are going to be a lot of naked people in the post-COVID football world. We fully intend to take advantage of it.”
