Speaking to reporters following AS Monaco’s 0-0 draw with Ligue 1 leaders Lille, manager Niko Kovac explained that he felt Les Dogues did not set up to try to win the match.
“My impression is that Lille came here to play for a draw. They played on the counter. It was a game of chess. The two teams were at a good level tactically. It was difficult to get past Lille’s lines. But I am satisfied with the level of play from our team. Now, we know that we can compete with the best teams in Ligue 1… If we couldn’t win, we needed to know how to not lose. We did that, contrary to what happened vs Strasbourg (0-1 loss in the previous match).”
