Paris prosecutor opens investigation into racist Tweets targeting French national team players

As reported by 20 Minutes and confirmed by the AFP, an investigation has been opened by prosecutors in Paris into incidents of racist social media posts on Twitter, targeting certain French national team players following the elimination vs Switzerland.

The investigation was opened on 30th June around “harm in public of a racist nature.”

This procedure follows reports of hate tweets transmitted by the Pharos platform to the online anti-hatred hotline of the public prosecutor’s office, according to a source familiar with the matter. A number of messages from accounts that have since been shut down appeared to target Kylian Mbappé following his penalty shootout miss.
