A Zinedine Zidane-Arsène Wenger ticket at PSG look increasingly likely for next season

As reported by Foot Mercato, Zinedine Zidane remains PSG’s priority target to replace Mauricio Pochettino as coach in the summer but he isn’t a fan of sporting director Leonardo.

Yesterday it was reported that Mauricio Pochettino has told those around him he plans to leave PSG in the summer, a year ahead of the end of his contract. PSG directors, meanwhile, had tried to end a less than inspiring partnership even sooner as they actively sought to replace the Argentine coach in January.

PSG’s Qatari owners are prepared to do anything to convince Zidane to sign for the club after it was reported he turned down the chance to join as coach in recent weeks because the Paris squad doesn’t suit him and he isn’t impressed by the way the club is being run.

Zidane is seen as the coach to restore order in cliquey, often haughty, dressing room and is to be offered a huge salary that far surpasses Pochettino’s €8m net yearly deal and even Zidane €12m net wage in Madrid.

The PSG hierarchy are also willing to offer Zidane wide ranging powers, making it unlikely sporting director Leonardo would continue with Zizou reportedly not a fan of the Brazilian, instead being keen to work with Arsène Wenger. Foot Mercato reported last year that Wenger would be interesting in working with Zidane too and could finally be convinced to join PSG after turning down many a previous opportunity.
