According to Sébastien Denis Saint-Étienne’s most hopeful youth prospect, Antoine Gauthier, has signed a professional 3-year contract at the club – he is very close to featuring for Les Verts’ first team.
He was a key member of Saint-Étienne’s youth academy – a talented attacking midfielder with an excellent left foot, Gauthier, reads the game well, and distributes the ball and is also a delight at set-pieces. The Frenchman has made a long term commitment to the club – which has had a proud history of producing youth players over the years.
Saint-Étienne have gone three games unbeaten in Ligue 2 after a rocky start, but currently sit 19th partly due to poor performances but also a points deduction which Les Verts have managed to crawl back. This followed violent scenes when the former Ligue 1 club were relegated to the second tier in a relegation tie against Auxerre, which was lost on penalties.
