Speaking to RMC Sport in the wake of his Nantes side’s last-gasp Europa League group stage win over Qarabağ, Antoine Kombouaré was keen to savour the moment, as Les Canaris go into the final matchday with a shot at making the knockout stages.
Substitute forward Ignatius Ganago came up with a 94th-minute winner for the hosts, sealing a first win in Europe since matchday one and guaranteeing Conference League football at the very least for next spring.
“What we’re living through is exceptional. I said it to the players – beyond congratulating them, I wanted to thank them. I am a happy coach, and more importantly, they are making the fans happy. Because there’s this communion, an exceptional love with the fans who give their team energy, who never let up.”
“It’s a reward for the efforts that we’ve put in, even if it was difficult against a very good Qarabağ team. When you never give up in life, there’s often a reward for it.”
