Arsenal Have Nicolas Pepe Replacement In Their Sights But Man Utd Could Block Transfer

As the second half of the season kicks on, most teams are preparing to shape up their squads to be more competitive. With Nicolas Pepe’s future at the Emirates still unclear, the Gunners’ scouting team has set their sights on none other than Christopher Nkunku.

With the upcoming summer transfer window on the horizon, Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta is looking to bolster his attacking options with wholesome changes. Of course, a good transfer window implies a new impetus injected into the club, meaning an increase in the odds of a team winning more games.

Why not take advantage of the increased odds by checking out some popular live betting sites? Aside from pocketing some bonus cash, you’ll get to enjoy the thrill of fun betting. Better yet, you can also bet on the upcoming transfer window by predicting who may join or leave a particular team.

After Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s recent exit, it seems Arsenal’s front duo of Alexander Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah might be following him in the summer. Nicolas Pepe is hot on the pair’s heels, whose time at North London hasn’t been quite fruitful.

Since his £72 million move from Lille in 2019, Pepe has shown moments of brilliance, but this season has been a setback as he remains on the periphery of the first team.

During the recent January transfer window, Lyon and Marseille were on Pepe’s radar waiting for a transfer to materialise, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen. On Pepe’s side, he was willing to assess his options in December in the winter window should his stay at the Emirates fail to improve.

The two options from France—Lyon and Marseille—didn’t seem to impress him. With a slim chance of Pepe returning to Arsenal’s first team, speculation surrounding his future continues lingering.

Once the upcoming August transfer window arrives, Pepe will be entering the final two years of his contract. To avoid a scenario where he’ll join the last year of his contract in 2023, the Gunners may find it prudent to cash in on the winger as soon as possible. Arsenal’s scouting team has identified Red Bull Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku as a viable target.

This comes as no surprise since the Gunners have been keeping tabs on the French winger since 2019 while he was plying his trade at Paris Saint-Germain. After transferring to the Bundesliga, Nkunku’s game has elevated to a whole new level, prompting interest from many clubs, including Arsenal.

One of Gunners fiercest rivals, Manchester United, is gunning for Nkunku’s signature as Ralph Ragnick looks set to reunite with the winger following their time together at RB Leipzig. Apart from fending off their transfer rivals, Arsenal will first need to get Pepe off their books. Also, Mikel Arteta is aware that Pepe wants more game time, but due to Bukayako Saka’s current form, playing time will be hard to come by.

Add the fact that the Gunners are currently in only one competition, the Premier League, and you can understand where Pepe’s frustration is emanating from.
