Arsenal make contact for Lucas Paquetá but Lyon want €80m

As reported by Goal France, Arsenal remain interested in Lyon attacking midfielder Lucas Paquetá but may balk at any potential deal with the French club asking for a huge fee.

Arsenal technical director Edu Gaspar, however, has already informed the 24-year-old’s entourage that the London club want to make a concrete proposal for the player this summer transfer window, but the Gunners are yet to make a formal approach.

However, Lyon, who missed out on European football for next season, are asking for €80m to allow Paquetá to leave the club. Arsenal, meanwhile, are expected to submit a bid below that amount as a first offer, say the outlet, with the player under contract at OL until 2025.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed the French club have already received offers for the player this summer after the Brazilian asked to leave during this transfer window. Aulas has agreed not to stand in the player’s way if the right offer arrives.

Newcastle United are also trying to persuade Paquetá to join them this summer after OL rejected an approach from the Magpies in the winter following the English club’s signing of the midfielder’s great friend and countryman Bruno Guimarães.
