Aurélien Tchouaméni and Jules Koundé on Bordeaux’s relegation battle: “It makes us sad.”

In a joint interview today in L’Équipe, French internationals Jules Koundé and Aurélien Tchouaméni notably discuss the dire straits their formative club, Bordeaux, find themselves in, sitting rock bottom of Ligue 1.

The defender and the midfielder, now of Sevilla and Monaco respectively, came through the Bordeaux youth academy together and started their professional careers in the same side.

Tchouaméni: “We were talking about it yesterday [Monday]. It makes us sad. In my eyes, Bordeaux being in Ligue 2 is impossible. Like, just impossible. And as the season goes on, the more I tell myself that’s it’s becoming possible, even if I hope Les Girondins will pull themselves together. The problems that are piling up, which began when we were there, are hurting us, yes.”

Koundé: “That’s it – we don’t realise it. Bordeaux are a historic club. We remember the titles, the great Champions League nights. There is still some hope because there are still games left, but it’s true that it’s difficult to watch from the outside. And it must be even worse to experience it from the inside.”
