Axel Disasi and Youssouf Fofana receive provisional call-ups to French squad

AS Monaco duo Axel Disasi (24) and Youssouf Fofana (23) have received provisional call-ups to Didier Deschamps’ France squad, according to L’Équipe. The final list of players is set to be announced today.

Disasi has never had a provisional call-up to the France squad but has represented the U20 side on three occasions. According to RMC, the Monaco centre-back is appreciated by Deschamps, and he is considering giving him his first call-up. France are without Presnel Kimpembe and Lucas Hernandez for the international fixtures later this month, providing an opportunity for Disasi to break into the squad.

However, there is competition within the provisional squad as new Chelsea signing Wesley Fofana has also received a provisional call-up and could earn a spot in Deschamps’ final list.

Monaco’s Fofana has also received a provisional call-up. It is not the first time that he has made a provisional squad, but he is yet to make an appearance for Les Bleus. Last season, Monaco manager Philippe Clement tipped him to break into the national side, and he has begun the season in strong form.

Questioned by Get French Football News journalist Luke Entwistle about the provisional call-ups, Clement said, “I am very happy for them. I don’t think Deschamps gives out presents. They have both had good starts to the season and I think it’s very important for them to have such experiences.”
