Chelsea are on the verge of reaching an agreement with Sevilla for the transfer of Jules Koundé (23), however, the French defender’s priority is for a move to Barcelona and the Catalan club have told the player to reject all other offers, according to Foot Mercato.
Chelsea have maintained a strong interest in Koundé for over a year. It was reported that he was close to joining the London club last summer before a move eventually broke down. However, they have returned for the player once again this summer, despite already completing the signing of Kalidou Koulibaly (31) and holding an interest in Presnel Kimpembe (26).
This year, Chelsea face competition. Barcelona have a strong interest in the player, despite not yet tabling an offer for the French international. Koundé himself is thought to prefer a move to Barcelona, and the Catalan club have even gone so far as to ask the player to reject any other approaches, including Chelsea’s.
That demand has not gone down well with Sevilla, who may take the decision out of Koundé’s hands. According to Foot Mercato, Sevilla are getting “impatient” and sporting director Monchi has told the player that if an offer from Barcelona doesn’t arrive quickly, he will do everything to conclude the deal with Chelsea. Despite making Barcelona his preference, Koundé is not against a move to Chelsea.
With the transfer of Robert Lewandowski (33) now sealed, Barcelona could quickly move for Koundé and Foot Mercato reports that they could soon make concrete their interest in the player.
