Benoît Costil to press charges after ultras racism claim

RMC Sport report this afternoon that Bordeaux goalkeeper Benoît Costil will press charges after the club’s main ultras group accused him and Laurent Koscielny of “sometimes racist behaviour”.

The accusation came following a heated row between Costil and the ultras during the 2-0 loss to Montpellier over the weekend, which saw the French international booed throughout the game.

Costil himself is very affected by the events of the past few days, although the players and staff are behind him. Two members of the club – one person who has since been fired and another still at the club – have made the accusations towards Costil and Koscielny.

Nevertheless, the ultras group – Ultramarines, or UB87 – maintain their accusation. An internal club announcement to staff has denounced the “insults” and “accusations” aimed at Costil and have stated that the claims are “without proof”.  Laurent Koscielny, who is no longer a member of the playing squad but a club ambassador since this winter, is also considering his options.
