Bordeaux have announced this morning that they have submitted a requested to call off Friday evening’s clash against Marseille, amid a cluster of Covid-19 cases in the squad.
The number of cases among the first-team is currently at 17, according to the club themselves. It had been as high as 21 last week, leading to Les Girondins fielding what was largely a youth side for their Coupe de France tie against Brest.
Bordeaux have also announced that should the match go ahead, it will be played behind closed doors, so as to not keep supporters in the dark until the last minute. This decision is also influenced by the French government’s new Covid-19 restrictions, ruling that stadiums are limited to a capacity of 5,000.
