Bordeaux terminate sponsorship with betting website over social media jokes

Bordeaux have announced that their sponsorship deal with betting website Winamax has ended, with club director Thomas Jacquemier explaining that the former’s recent social media posts had seen them “break with” with Les Girondins.

The contract termination in particular appears to be a reaction to jokes made from the Winamax twitter account about Bordeaux’s recent loss to Marseille, and specifically about the end of their 44-year unbeaten run against the latter.

The team will now sport the logo of the club foundation, Cœur Marine et Blanc, on its shirt rather than the betting company.

The foundation aims to support healthcare, children, and social inclusion in the Bordeaux area, and that every donation will be doubled by club president Gérard Lopez.
