Carlo Ancelotti gives Karim Benzema injury update

According to L’Équipe Karim Benzema has returned to Real Madrid’s squad to face Celtic on Wednesday, despite not yet participating in full training with Carlo Ancelotti’s side – thus it isn’t certain whether he will start against the Scottish side. His manager said the following about the France international:

“If he’s in the squad I’ll have to decide whether to have him as a starter or on the bench. If he didn’t play it’s because he wasn’t feeling well and not because the World Cup is coming up. And to get to the World Cup in good shape, it’s better to play before.”

Three weeks away from the World Cup the Frenchman has returned to training alongside fellow Les Bleus prospect Aurélien Tchouaméni. However, the midfielder has been ruled out of the match against Celtic with muscle fatigue – it is not yet known how long he will be out for. Benzema was absent for Real’s 1-1 draw with Girona after feeling the muscular injury during training on Friday and missing Satuday’s training session.
