In speaking to L’Équipe in his first major interview since joining PSG, coach Christophe Galtier spoke about the deal that brought him to Paris and working with his new squad, describing the talent at the club as “unbelievable.”
After ten days at PSG, what is your biggest discovery?
“The talent of the players, it’s unbelievable. The technical quality during the first training sessions, the understanding between each other, the technical sequences…”
When was first contact with Paris?
“Quite a few weeks before my official arrival. I had discussions with Luis Campos but also with the president who assured me that I would be the future coach of PSG.”
How did you handle the media whirlwind around Zinedine Zidane?
“I want to be short on this subject. Zizou is Zizou. He has an incredible track record. Zizou is unique. But what was most important were my constant exchanges with my president and Luis.”
Did you ever doubt your position?
“No way. Because I knew… (pause) It was clear from the president that I was going to be the coach of PSG.”
Why did the official announcement take so long?
“Contact was quickly established between Luis Campos and Nice and I want to thank Jim Ratcliffe and Dave Brailsford for affording me the opportunity to come and coach PSG. After that, it took longer for reasons that I don’t want to comment on.”
