Gianluca Di Marzio is reporting that Barcelona defender Clément Lenglet (27) is set to join Tottenham Hotspur on loan for the upcoming season.
The French international defender did not feature in Xavi’s plans and the player himself was “open to a departure” according to RMC. Marseille had an interest in the player but balked at the finances of the deal, which would see them having to cover his €6m yearly wage.
However, Lenglet looks to now be on the move. According to Di Marzio, his loan to Tottenham is a “done deal” and he is set to become the London club’s fourth signing of the summer after Ivan Perisić (33), Fraser Forster (24) and Yves Bissouma (25).
Lenglet only featured seven times in La Liga for Barcelona last season, and for financial reasons, Barcelona are looking to shift players of their hefty wage bill.
There is not yet any indication as to whether the deal is a straight loan or whether there is a purchase option to be included in the deal.
