According to L’Équipe, following Eurosport’s withdrawal from showing televised games of France’s only cup competition, the French Football Federation has been struggling to find a broadcaster willing to show Coupe de France games – with Amazon Prime Video reportedly not interested in taking up the deal.
In the spring time, only France Télévisions-Eurosport, the competition’s traditional television partner, responded, but with a proposal of €15 million per year, far from the €21 million of the previous contract.
The FFF executive committee then wen’t on to open up to the market, where no other broadcasters are interested in taking up the mantle. Whilst the Federation tried to convince Amazon Prime Video Sport on the matter, they are reportedly “not receptive” to the idea. FFF president Noël Le Graët has however reassured clubs that they will still receive a €12m total payment. Meanwhile, Coupe de France games will continue to be broadcast on the French Football Federation website.
The next round of the Coupe de France will take place on 18-19th November.
