David Guion unveiled as Bordeaux manager: “It’s a really difficult but exciting challenge.”

Former Reims manager David Guion was today presented to the press after joining Bordeaux, replacing Vladimir Petković as the club lies rock bottom of the league with the worst defence in the top five leagues.

His words transcribed in L’Équipe, Guion acknowledged the scale of the task at hand but insisted that he was relishing the challenge and stated that his new players were already on board.

“It was obvious. Bordeaux are a prestigious and historic club. This mission seemed to be tailor-made for me. I got on well with the president Gérard Lopez and Admar [Lopes, technical director]. It’s a really difficult but exciting and fascinating challenge. I really want to take it up and leave the club in the top flight because that’s where it belongs.”

“[The players] are lacking in confidence, we saw that in the last few games, but I’m very motivated by the idea of bringing in my expertise and experience. I don’t feel as if the squad is affected. I see a team that wants to get back on its feet, and get the club out of this position. This week, I felt a lot of support for what I was saying. The players are totally involved and aware of the situation.”
