Djibril Sidibé nearing AEK Athens move

L’Équipe are reporting that former AS Monaco right-back Djibril Sidibé (30) is nearing a move to Greek side AEK Athens, and a deal could be completed by Sunday.

Sidibé has been a free agent since his contract at Monaco expired this summer. The World Cup winner saw his game time at the Principality club reduced following the winter arrival of Vanderson. That signing, coupled with the form of Ruben Aguilar saw him relegated to third-choice and his contract wasn’t renewed.

The Frenchman was targeted by Premier League side Nottingham Forest, but the newly-promoted side reportedly favoured a move for Serge Aurier. Despite intense rumours, the Ivory Coast international’s move to Forest is yet to be completed.

Sidibé, who also had a stint on loan at Premier League side Everton, now looks to be heading to Greece. Talks with AEK Athens are reportedly at an advanced stage, and could reach a positive conclusion as early as Sunday.
