EXCLUSIVE | Wagneau Eloi talks about the World Cup Final and playing in FIFA Legends Cup

Get French Football News spoke with former RC Lens striker, Wagneau Eloi after his appearance in the Legends Cup an event affiliated with the World Cup. FIFA put together a tournament of legendary footballers to celebrate the game and put on a show for the fans in Doha during the World Cup.

His team, representing the Americas, was a team that also included Dwayne De Rosario, Alexi Lalas, Stuart Holden, Luis Hernández, Heather O’Reilly, Paulo Wanchope, Kristine Lilly, David Suazo, Jorge Campos and Kevin Kurányi.

After the Finals of the Legends Cup the two-time Ligue 1 champion gave his thoughts on the event and his view on Sunday’s World Cup final.

How was the legends Cup?

It was amazing, but we lost in the final. It’s like I was back to real football again (laughs)

How was it seeing so many former teammates and friends? Did you get to see Drogba?

Of course, he is my friend for life. That’s why it was so difficult to play today, because we stayed up until 4 am talking (laughs).

Was there anyone who surprised you with their level? Anyone able to still take the pitch?

Kaká. He still has his dribbling and played very well.

What were your thoughts on the Legends Cup game in general?

It was my first time. Next time we will win. It was really well organized. Very entertaining and fun for the players.

What are your thoughts on this World Cup? Was it the best?

It was amazing. The games and the event. Now, you cannot tell who will win.

You mean the other countries have caught up?

It’s not about catching up. It is the organization and structure of the teams.

Who do you think will win the final?

People get too caught up on Argentina’s loss in the first match. Do you know why they lost their first match? They did not respect the game (other team). Since then, it’s been all Messi.

So Who do you think will win?:

I told you, Messi!.

Is there a way for France to win?:

Take Messi out of the game completely. Messi does not need 90 minutes to win the game he only has to be Messi for 10 minutes.

Wagneau then went back to the festivities and to spend time with his Ligue 1 alumni. To see players like Kaka, Roberto Carlos, Cafu, Ronaldinho, Didier Drogba, David Trezeguet and others, still playing the game for the love of it is special. This may not have been the a World Cup match, but definitely a treat for football lovers.
