Whilst speaking to L’Équipe ahead of France’s Euro 2022 semi-final tomorrow against Germany – French captain Wendie Renard seemed determined as ever to create history in England and win the tournament against stiff competition. When asked about what the semi-final represents in the history of Les Bleues, Renard responded:
“The semi-final will only mean something if you win the trophy. We only talk about winners. Whether I lose in the quarters or the semis, it doesn’t make any difference. But if you win, we’re talking about you. The objective is only the trophy, and for that we have a big match tomorrow against a great nation that has already won trophies. We know it’s going to be difficult, but there’s nothing impossible. We have quality in the group, I believe in it and I have confidence in my teammates. You can count on us, we will be there.”
“We’re in the semi-finals, it’s going to be tough, a fight. They are not happy to play us too, I think. We have quality to show. It’s going to be important, it’s going to be up to us to be together, to be determined, to sort out the two or three things that didn’t work, to be even more effective. France-Germany, it’s always big matches, everything we like.”
