France friendly draws 4.9 million viewers

Having come back from 1-0 down against Ivory Coast last night in their friendly fixture, the French national team attracted just under 5 million viewers from around the country, as reported by L’Équipe.

Despite the lack of stakes, the game was the most watched programme on French television last night, drawing 26.3% of the evening’s audience.

This is likely a result of its availability on free-to-air channel M6, which shares the rights to the French national team’s games with TF1, another free access channel.

While the friendly attracted a smaller audience than Les Bleus’ last qualifying match against Finland (6.3 million), it was watched by more than double the number of people than PSG’s second leg against Real Madrid, which saw an audience of only 2.39 million.
