France team woken up by fire alarm in middle of the night

RMC Sport report this afternoon that the France squad were woken up by a fire alarm last night, in an incident which took place at around three in the morning.

Several members of the 2018 World Cup-winning squad will have been reminded of a similar incident during the tournament in Russia, after the 4-3 Round of 16 win over Argentina, involving Adil Rami.

The then-Marseille centre-back had infamously used a fire extinguisher “in ghostbuster style” in the midst of the celebrations, which caused Les Bleus’ hotel to be evacuated. The incident ostensibly nearly saw Rami sent home from Russia, but Didier Deschamps kept the veteran in the team after seeing how the incident had fostered team spirit.

There were no such celebrations last night, as Les Bleus look ahead to their second fixture of the competition, as they face their main group stage rivals Denmark on Saturday afternoon.
