As reported by L’Équipe , France midfielder Youssouf Fofana explained in the wake of the last 16 win over Poland that Dider Deschamps had a discussion in the wake of his poor performance against Tunisia to reiterate his support.
Fofana was given his first start of the tournament in a revamped lineup, with Les Bleus having already booked their spot in the last 16 by that point. The 23-year-old endured a difficult match though, notably losing the ball in the middle of the pitch in a sequence which led to the Carthage Eagles’ winner, scored by Wahbi Khazri.
The Monégasque has quickly lifted his head back up though, helped by the support he has received from both his teammates and coach – “They told me that it happens, and that it’s better for it to come now [laughs] Even the coach came to see me”. He concluded that he has happy to have come on for a solid cameo appearance in Sunday night’s match, playing over half an hour and making three recoveries in that time, touching the ball 14 times.
