One-club legend Francesco Totti has supported Kylian Mbappé’s (23) choice to turn down Real Madrid and remain at Paris Saint Germain.
Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, Totti said, “Mbappé? For me, it’s a choice of the heart, no matter who it was that decided to stay. He should be managed and protected like all the big champions. He can’t find better than PSG.”
It was rumoured that Totti twice turned down the opportunity to join Real Madrid in the mid-2000s. Speaking to The Guardian about rejecting the Spanish giants, he said, “I wouldn’t go to Real Madrid because it wasn’t my story. My story was Rome, Roma.”
Mbappé turned down Real Madird this summer, opting to stay at PSG, where he has signed a contract, which runs until 2025. Like Totti, Mbappé evoked a national pride in justifying his decision to remain in the French capital. Having signed his extension, Mbappé said, “I said yes to France and PSG. I had the call of the homeland and of the capital city. It was too early to leave on a free.”
