L’Équipe report that France’s president Emmanuel Macron will be present at the Al-Bayt stadium this evening as France face off Morocco for a place in the 2022 World Cup final – but will be return overnight to Europe as he is expected to participate in a European summit being held in Brussels the next day. Macron is expected to arrive in Doha in the afternoon.
The president of France has already indicated that he would be travelling to Qatar in the case of Les Bleus reaching the semi-final stage of the competition. The Élysée (French President’s official residence) had briefed several media telling them that Macron will attend the competition only from the semi-finals onwards in late November.
In a tweet Macron said “This World Cup, the first to be held in the Arab world, is evidence of the concrete changes that are taking place,” the head of state explained. “Qatar has embarked on this path and must continue. It can count on our support”.
