‘Freed from desire’, Gala’s 1997 song, has become a big hit within the France dressing room and has been played following their World Cup victories. Speaking to BFMTV, the singer has now said that they would love to sign her iconic track with Les Bleus.
The song made its entrance into the footballing world back in 2016. With modified lyrics, it was adopted by Northern Ireland during Euro 2016 with the chorus altered from ‘Freed from desire’ to ‘Will Griggs’ on fire.’ France have now taken to singing the song, with its original lyrics, after victories.
Les Bleus have registered four victories in the World Cup in Qatar as they look to retain their title from 2018. Having won their opening match against Australia, they then won against Denmark, and easily overcame Poland in the Round of 16. In an interview transcribed by RMC Sport, Gala has now said that she would love to sing her song with Didier Deschamps’ side.
“I would love [to sing it with them]. France has always been a marvelous country with me. I think the French are very aware. This awareness sits well with me,” she said.
